Nick Markakis launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the St. Paul Saints
defeated the Santa Fe Trailer Bitches by the score of 8 to 5 at Trailer
Park.
Markakis was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in
the 3rd inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run (his 14th
of the season) in the 5th inning and lined a base-hit scoring a run in the
8th inning. Santa Fe made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.
The victory went to Tim Redding(7-14) who went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs.
Redding got help from Salomon Torres who earned his 14th save. Justin
Verlander(7-12) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 3 homeruns in 4 and 2/3
innings of work.
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Dennis Martin 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
